Spiral - Louise Bourgeois

€49

The spiral is a recurring motif in the work of Louise Bourgeois, whether in her sculptures, paintings or drawings, from the 1950s until her death in 2010. It has two directions.
Where to stand, on the periphery or in the vortex? The vortex is both "the fear of losing control" and the experience of "giving up control; trust, positive energy, life itself".

Description

In materials as diverse as wood, steel, bronze, latex, marble, plaster, resin, hemp, lead, ink, pencil, coloured pencil, woodcut, watercolour and gouache, Bourgeois explores every conceivable manifestation of the spiral, from graphic patterns to graphite scrolls, from wobbly orbits to chiselled whirlpools, from twisted columns to coiled snakes, staircases and pyramids.
