Description
A retrospective dedicated to the major figure of abstract art, the American painter Mark Rothko (1903-1970).
After experimenting with abstract expressionism and surrealism, Mark Rothko invented a new, meditative way of painting, which Clement Greenberg defined as Colorfield Painting. In his canvases, he expressed himself exclusively through the medium of colour, which he applied to the canvas in flat areas with indistinct edges, in moving surfaces, sometimes monochrome and sometimes composed of variously coloured bands. In this way, he achieves a particularly sensitive spiritual dimension.
