Description

The 51 pages were produced using a ballpoint pen, in reference to the Japanese printmaker Hokusaï and his album "Hokusaï Manga" (1814), which translates as "drawing freely" or "drawing with the brush". Light in their approach, the plates all have the same architecture: a work by Henri Matisse is evoked in the centre of the page, with live sketches of visitors and staff arranged around it. On the bottom strip, a watercolour reproduces photos of Henri Matisse or his contemporaries, and in the bubble, their quotations recount the thoughts and life of the great artist.
